Festival Time – A Time to Spruce Up Your Homes!

It is that time of the year again. The festive spirit is in the air. It is time to spruce up your homes. Before you go on that cleaning spree it is important to de-clutter your houses. It is a good idea to systematically go through each room, cupboard, loft, shelf, storage area, nook and corner to look for things that you need to get rid of. The rule of the thumb is that anything that you haven’t used in the past six months, you won’t be needing it at all. Many a times we hold on to unwanted things unnecessarily and these create a lot of clutter in our homes.  It could be the children’s old school books, toys which they have outgrown, old steel utensils, clothes and shoes which no longer fit, old knickknacks, etc. You need to take all of these and donate them to some charity. This will not only make you feel good but will also de-clutter your homes. Remember a lot of useless stuff lying around the house not only makes the house look messy but it also restricts the flow of good energy or ‘chi’.

In case your house is in need of any repairs, attend to it. Fix leakages if any. Replace broken fixtures. Get the house painted if it is needed. Polish the wooden doors and windows.

Next, comes the cleaning part. I know this is the tedious part and we all dread doing the same. It takes a lot of time and energy too. The curtains have to be taken down and washed, carpets vacuumed, floors scrubbed, window panes cleaned, cupboards turned out and rearranged, etc. The kitchen needs some special attention, what with all the grease having settled on surfaces. Next are the bathrooms which need to be acid-washed to get rid of any stains.

So now your house is squeaky clean. It is time to add a special touch to it. So bring out those good bedspreads, buy a set of new cushions for the living room and add a colourful rug to liven up the drawing room. You could also rearrange the furniture a little to give your room a new look. Add a few indoor potted plants for that fresh look.

Now it’s time to stand back and admire the effect your effort has created. Your house will look as good as new!
